2003年底,美国政府开通了阿拉伯语卫星电视台“中东电视网”,以对抗大量播出反美报道的半岛电视台和阿拉伯电视台。 目前,阿拉伯电视媒体影响力较大的有:半岛电视台、阿布扎比电视台和阿拉伯电视台,这三大电视网的信号能覆盖整个中东地区,通过卫星还可以覆盖全球大多数地区。半岛电视台以敢于大胆揭露阿拉伯国家政府的阴暗面赢得阿拉伯民众青睐;阿拉伯电视台平民化报道的特色为其带来了良好声誉;阿布扎比电视台的节目观点鲜明大胆,特别受阿拉伯知识分子的欢迎,被称为是阿拉伯思潮的风向标。
