美国国家标准局(NBS)为全国精密测量和标准的中心,而美国空军测量标准实验室则负责空军的标准工作。空军测量标准实验室是计量局的一部分,位于俄亥俄州纽瓦克空军站的飞行制导和计量中心内(AGMC)。全部的红外和激光测量工作都是在应用科学实验室(MLLS)里完成的。现在从事这方面研究的工作人员共有16人:9个物理学家和工程师(其中6人有高级学位)和7个技术员。分10个实验室,占地面积约为6000平方英尺。所有实验室的温度和湿度都是可控的,而且装备良好。现有设备价值为200万美元。上述数字足可见该实验室之规模。
The National Bureau of Standards (NBS) is the center of national precision measurement and standards, while the Air Force Measurement Standards Laboratory is responsible for the Air Force's standard work. The Air Force Metrology Laboratory is part of the Metrology Bureau located at the Flight Guidance and Metering Center (AGMC) at Newark Air Force Station in Ohio. All infrared and laser measurements are done in the Applied Science Laboratory (MLLS). There are currently 16 staff working in this area: nine physicists and engineers (six of whom have advanced degrees) and seven technicians. Divided into 10 laboratories, covers an area of about 6,000 square feet. All laboratory temperature and humidity are controllable and well equipped. The existing equipment is worth two million U.S. dollars. The above figures are sufficient to see the size of the laboratory.
