In the United States, prescriptions for PPIs per year are as high as 1.134 billion prescriptions and third place in prescription drugs. However, there is evidence that 53% to 69% of them are improper prescriptions. FDA recently warned that high-dose or long-term use of PPIs is at risk of fracture.
