Professor Liu Yunhai, deputy chairman of the Renal Diseases Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and director of the Department of Primary Renal Medicine, Air Force General Hospital, have studied toxicity of traditional Chinese medicines in recent years. He has found that nearly 50 kinds of traditional Chinese medicines are toxic to the kidney and can cause acute and chronic kidney damage and Kidney failure. Professor Liu Yunhai summarizes three types of Chinese medicines that can cause kidney damage.
