In 1947, I was a student at the School of Science at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. My father, Mei Gongbin, was a professor at the School of Law at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. Our family lived at Shipai, the seat of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou at the time. In May of that year, following Beijing in all parts of the country, they launched the anti-hunger, anti-civil war and anti-persecution struggles with their opposition to the Kuomintang rule as the main content. May 30, Guangzhou city middle and high school students took to the streets for demonstrations. The Kuomintang reactionaries were furious and decided to go crazy to crack down on them. They considered my father the behind-the-scenes organizer of the mass demonstrations (in fact, under the leadership of the CPC underground party organization).
