三江地区系指藏东、川西、云南及青海西南部分地区。大致分布于东经92°—104°, 北纬36°以南范围内的怒江、澜沧江、金沙江流域。在漫长的地质历史演化过程中,本区曾经历过多次剧烈的构造运动,因而形成本区岩浆活动繁多,变质作用强烈,地质构造复杂的格局。编图过程中,在分析前人积累的丰富资料的基础上,试对三江弧形构造带(以下简称三江带)主要地质构造特征,演化过程,运动方式及形成时期等方面作一粗浅的论述和分析。
