US chip maker Intel Corporation announced on November 25, 2002, from January 1, 2003 onwards, will raise its flash memory chip prices across the board, or more than 20%, of which the largest high-performance flash memory chips rose to 40%. Intel is raising prices based on a surge in demand for flash memory chips and market expectations. In the third quarter of 2002, the market demand for flash memory chips has doubled since 2001. Intel expects demand for flash chips for mobile devices such as cell phones will continue to rise in the coming years. Flash memory chips are a type of data storage device used in a large number of mobile devices such as mobile phones, MP3 music players and personal digital processing. At present, handset manufacturers and so on have added more and more additional functions such as digital camera, color display screen to its new generation of products, thus increasing the demand for data storage devices.
