从前有个道士专给人算命,据说算得十分灵验,前往找他算命的人很多。一天有三个要进京赴考的考生,在进京之前想问问三人当中谁能考中,于是他们就到道士那里,说明来意,点了香,叩了头。只见道士闭着眼朝他们伸出一个指头,却不说话。考生们不知其意,请求道士说明。道士拿起拂尘一挥,说道:“去罢,到时自然明白,此乃天机不可明言。”三个考生只好怏怏地走了。
Fortunately, there was a priest who gave a fortune telling. It was said to be very efficacious and many people went to find him fortune telling. One day there are three candidates who are going to Beijing to go to the exam. Before they enter Beijing, they would like to ask who among the three can do the examination. Then they went to the Taoist priests to explain their intentions, took a fragrant look, and looked down. I saw that the priests closed their eyes and pointed at them, but they did not speak. Candidates did not know what they meant and asked the priest to explain. The priest took a whisking swish and said, “Go and stop and then naturally understand that this is the secret of nature.” The three candidates had no choice but to walk away.
