Objective To investigate the effect of BMI on the recurrence and metastasis of patients with breast cancer after standardized therapy. Methods One hundred and sixty-one cases of breast cancer who were diagnosed as breast cancer underwent standardized treatment were enrolled in this study. The data of tumor staging, menopausal status, age, ethnicity, immunohistochemistry, height and body weight were collected. The follow-up time ranged from 2 to 62 months. The median follow-up time was 48 months. Analysis of BMI changes in breast cancer patients with tumor recurrence and metastasis. Results The BMI change in patients with recurrence and metastasis of breast cancer (1.237 5 ± 0.880 4) was significantly higher than that in patients without recurrence (0.704 2 ± 0.533 8) (t = 8.092, P = 0.000) There was significant difference between the two groups (P = 0.000). Breast cancer patients with a rising trend of BMI had a higher risk of tumor recurrence and metastasis. Conclusions The continuous increase of BMI increases the risk of recurrence and metastasis in breast cancer patients. Maintaining a reasonable body mass may be helpful to the prevention and treatment of recurrence and metastasis of breast cancer.
