加拿大主管卫生工作的国家机构是联邦卫生与福利部,它的主要任务是负责保障和全面提高加拿大公民的健康水平,降低和控制环境因素对人们的危害,负责社会医疗保障和社会福利工作。联邦卫生和福利部门主要有6个职能部门:卫生保健司、医疗服务司、卫生计划司、保健与业余体育活动司、远期卫生规划司、医疗学研究委员会。联邦政府下属10个省、2个地区亦设有相应的卫生机构,以负责卫生保健工作的管理和实施,各省卫生机构保持着高度的独立性。
The national agency responsible for health care in Canada is the Federal Department of Health and Welfare. Its main task is to protect and improve the overall health of Canadian citizens, reduce and control the harm caused by environmental factors, and take charge of social health insurance and social welfare. The federal health and welfare department has six main functional departments: the Department of Health Care, the Department of Health Services, the Department of Health Planning, the Department of Health and Amateur Sports Activities, the Department of Forward Health Planning, and the Council of Medical Research. The federal government’s 10 provinces and 2 districts also have appropriate health agencies to take charge of the management and implementation of health care. Provincial health authorities maintain a high degree of independence.
