The major estrogen in human pregnancy urine is est-riol, a product of placental transformation during fetal epidermal DHEA production. However, nonho-minoid primate species excrete only very small amounts of estriol during pregnancy. This feature may be one of the major differences between the reproductive functions of these primates and human primates. For this reason, the purpose of this article is to compare the estrogen components of urine during pregnancy with Homo sapiens, pongo pygma-eus and Gorilla gorilla and provide extremely useful data for the study of human reproductive biology in animal models of choice .
