Recently, the European Commission proposed to the EU Council to resume anti-dumping duties on color TV sets in China. Konka and other color TV companies said that by improving product mix and set up factories overseas, etc., China’s color TV industry already has a certain degree of coping ability. A few years ago, this kind of thing was undoubtedly a bad news for Chinese enterprises. The globalization of the economy and accession to the WTO have given China’s national industry an opportunity to compete for market space with foreign enterprises and stand in the same ring with the best multinational corporations in the world. China’s industry is still young. It is as passionate as the majority of us but has no experience, but is malleable. “The planet is flat, and no matter who you are, you can stand tall and look far as long as you have a soap box.” In the 2005 bestseller World is Flat, New York Times columnist Thomas L. Friedman believes that to survive in globalization, the key is whether you have an innovative “soap box.” Chinese companies are looking for innovative “soapboxes” in the face of the chronic legacy of the Chinese industry.
