侯德封先生1900年农历4月8日生于河北省高阳县,1923年毕业于北京大学地质学系。在长达60年地质生涯中,他把毕生的精力完全献给了祖国的地质事业,是和李四光等老一辈科学家并肩战斗的杰出地质学家、矿床学家、地球化学家,是中国地质工作的一位卓越组织者和领导者。在回顾20世纪中国地质事业的发展历程,展望新世纪光辉前景的时候,不能不缅怀这位与世纪同龄的杰出科学家所建立的丰功伟绩,学习他那高瞻远瞩的战略思想。为国探宝的尖兵和先导本世纪20年代,面对贫穷落后的旧中国,侯德封先生一走出校门,便踏上了科学救国的征程,先后在河南中原煤业公司、农业部地质调查所、太原晋绥矿产测探局、四川省地质调查所和南京地质调查所等单位工作。为探查祖国的资源和矿藏,他背井离乡,走南闯北,深入调查
Mr. Hou Defeng was born in Gaoyang County, Hebei Province on April 8, 1900, and graduated from Department of Geology, Peking University in 1923.
