水利、水电、建筑、铁路、交通等工程建设中,存在着大量的岩土工程问题,水利水电工程尤其如此。抽水蓄能、核电站、电力工程、环境工程中也会出现大量的岩土工程问题。据统计,我国在建和拟建的30个大型水电站中,总的土石方工程量达82778.55万方,大力培养处理岩土工程问题的专门人才,更深入地开展对岩土工程问题的研究非常必要,具有重大意义。
