Objective: To observe and analyze the role and significance of programmed cell death (PCD) in the formation of cellular aggregates. Methods: The maxillofacial development model of C57BL / 6N mouse embryo at 13, 14, 15, 16d and 10d after birth was established and prepared. The PCD of maxillofacial tissue was detected by in situ terminal transaminase cell. Results: In the early stages of the formation of various tissues and organs such as maxillofacial bone and teeth, the mesenchymal cells were aggregated and specific cell aggregation areas appeared. With the appearance of cell aggregation, the number and density of PCD increased. The number of PCDs decreased when the cells in the cohesion transformed to a specific cell line phenotype. Conclusions: PCD plays an important role in the formation of maxillofacial condensation zone, which can control the number and quality of cells therein and facilitate the shaping of cohesive zone
