Objective To investigate the role of transcription factor Foxp3 in the pathogenesis of early latent syphilis. Methods The expression of Foxp3 mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of 32 early latent syphilis patients and 32 normal controls were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR. Results The expression of Foxp3 mRNA in early latent syphilis was (4.99 ± 3.53), which was significantly higher than that in the normal control group (1.13 ± 0.55). There was significant difference between the two groups (P <0.001). However, there was no correlation between serum RPR titer and serum RPR (P> 0.05). Conclusion The high expression of transcription factor Foxp3 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of early latent syphilis.
