《区域性城市的发展》一书,探讨了城市增长机制和区域性(特别是国际性)城市的发展两大问题。全书的时空覆盖面极广。时间上,早至公元前四千年美索不达米亚最早城市的记载,近至现代国际性城市;空间上,从发展中国家城市到工业化国家城市。在城市增长机制方面,作者认为,城市增长的原动力在于城市与外界的交流与贸易。从罗马帝国衰落到17世纪,欧洲城市增长缓慢,有的甚至处于停滞状态,其原因在于,这一时期的城市相互交流
The book “Development of Regional Cities” discusses two major issues of urban growth mechanisms and the development of regional (especially international) cities. The book covers a wide range of time and space. In terms of time, as early as the fourth millennium BC, the earliest cities in Mesopotamia were recorded as modern international cities; in space, from cities in developing countries to cities in industrialized countries. In terms of urban growth mechanisms, the author believes that the driving force behind urban growth lies in the exchange and trade between the city and the outside world. From the decline of the Roman Empire to the 17th century, European cities grew slowly, and some even stagnated. The reason is that cities in this period communicated with each other.
