对《孝经》中“身体发肤,受之父母,不敢毁伤,孝之始也”一语历来有不同的解释,多数论者认为此句意为孝子不可以任何方式毁伤自己的身体发肤,孔安国则以不受刑伤为孝之始。由不同的理解引发了对一些相关问题的争议,即:如何看待舍身取义、毁身疗亲、佛徒剃发、焚化死者尸体等做法。孔安国释“毁伤”为“刑伤”比较恰当,但他对“孝之始”的解释不够合理,不受刑伤不辱其亲应是孝的最低标准而并非仅仅是人生早期的行孝要求。
