An article in BusinessWeek in the United States once pointed out that the “integrated Sino-US economy” is beneficial to both sides. Today’s Sino-U.S. Trade is a situation in which the total volume of trade between the two countries escalates and the trade imbalances coexist at the same time. Schumer, a New York Democrat, and Eachenham, a South Carolina Republican senator, have just concluded a three-day visit to China. On the question of a U.S. trade deficit of more than 200 billion U.S. dollars in 2005, Schumer and Graham, like many senators, attribute this to the renminbi issue in China. After three days of short-term visits, they had an initial understanding of China. They said: “We will be cautious when we return to China.” Following Schumer and Graham, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez paid a low-profile visit to China. On March 28, he said to Vice Premier Wu Yi that during his visit to China, he and officials from relevant departments of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce We hope that the U.S. and China will work closely together with the commercial departments to win consensus on the issues of mutual concern at the forthcoming Joint Commission on Commerce between the United States and China so as to promote the sound development of the economic and trade relations between the two countries. The summit of state leaders in Washington created a good atmosphere. At the end of April, President Hu Jintao will visit the United States for the first time as president of the country. This will push the Sino-U.S. Relations to a new height. To this end, we have planned the topic of “Sino-US Trade” in China’s Economy and Trade magazine and we dedicate this topic to our readers during the spring March, when the top two officials in the U.S. government are all coming and going. Our reporter interviewed Jin Xu, deputy director of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and invited Dr. Mei Xinyu, a researcher from the Ministry of Commerce, to write an article on this subject. He also invited some special commentators of the magazine Textile Chamber of Commerce Dong Xiaoxia and Nanjing University Xiao Xiaojin for our work from different angles Elaborated on the strong and fragile aspects of the process of trade between China and the United States. At the same time, we believe that at the same time, we hope that with the healthy, stable and delicate development of the economic and trade relations between China and the United States, these words will bring us new inspiration and provide some guidelines and markings in the numerous international trade exchanges.
