Eugenia uniflora is widely distributed in South American countries such as Brazil. Folks use its leaves as extractant as a medicine to treat various diseases, especially for the treatment of hypertension. Its chemical composition includes flavonoids and tannins. Pharmacological experiments showed that the hydro-alcoholic extract of the flat cherry leaves had the effect of lowering the blood pressure of the anesthetized rats. Many of these substances relaxed the vascular smooth muscle through the endogenous NO-cGMP pathway. For this reason, the vasorelaxant effect of P. edulis extract and its relationship with L-arginine-NO pathway were further studied. mention
