The translation of ancient Chinese appellations is a difficult point that can not be avoided in the process of English translation of ancient Chinese books. Taking “Mencius” as an example, the book contains many first-person second-class nominal appellations with distinctive national cultural features. Different versions have different translation features. Chinese translator Liu Dianjue chose naturalization, alienation, supplemented by the translation strategy. From the perspective of translation ecology, this is not only the result of the translator’s own ability selection but also the result of his adaptability to the readers of the target language. The success of the translation is to adapt to the specific translation environment at that time. This provides a useful reference for the English translation of the ancient Chinese appellations in the English translation of classics under the new situation.
