何一民撰文《第一次“城市革命”与社会大分工》指出,长期以来我国学术界对第一次城市革命与城乡分工和脑体劳动分工的关系关注较少,更多的是采用恩格斯的三大分工说,即原始后期人类社会相继出现三次社会大分工:畜牧业与农业的分工,手工业从农业中分离出来,商业从手工业中分离出来,而城市则是三次社会大分工的产物。但越来越多的考古发掘表明城市的出现早于手工业从农业中分离出来,更早于商业从手工业中分离出来,因而城市作为三大分工的产物之说实际上难以成立。三大分工理论存在一个明显
