新闻标题的形式多种多样。类似章回小说回目那样的新闻标题又是别具一格。这种标题句式对仗,语言优美,内容醒目,颇为读者喜闻乐见。回目式标题的渊源是古典章回体小说。章回小说是我国古典长篇小说的唯一形式。它是由宋元讲史话本发展起来的,由萌芽到成熟经历了较长的发展过程。元末明初先是分卷分节,每节一个单句题目。到明中叶分为若干回,回目由单句发展成参差不齐的双句。回目在句法结构上臻于完善,那是到了清人毛宗岗修改《三国演义》的时候。毛氏为“务取精工,以快阅者之目”,才把参差不对、错乱无章的回目都改成了整齐的对偶句。
