本文作者认为,意译就是像运用母语表达自己的思想那样来自由设计译文的结构与措辞。这样的意译是可能的,但前提条件是:对贯穿在原文中的思想与情感译者必须已经完全掌握。要达到这种程度的理解,译者在研读原文时绝不能停留在字面意义上,而要力求抓住原文词语所指的事物、事物之间关系的本来面目、以及全文主题与原文作者通过词语刻画出来的形象。
The author of this article argues that free translation is the freedom to design the structure and wording of a translation as it is to express one’s own thoughts in one’s mother tongue. Such a translation is possible, but the prerequisite is that the translator must fully grasp the thoughts and emotions that permeate the original text.
