一表面积理论的内容激发极化法找矿实践表明,它和其它电法勘探一样,对于勘探电子导电致密型矿体是有效的.此外,它还具有能发现含最低的、由分散浸染的电子导电颗粒构成的矿化岩层或矿体的独特能力.为了阐明激发极化法的这种特殊本质,国外学者提出了极化效应与电子导体表面积有关的理论.加拿大学者H.O.赛格尔1962年提出:“由于超电压本质上是一种表面现象,因此当各个颗粒减小时,由一定的百分金属含量所引起的IP效应往往就会增大.此时激发极化法趋向于使金属的真的浸染体反映比具有同样金属含量的致密的互相连通的聚集体更明显”.
