During maintainabiIity demonstration, the maintenance time for compIex systems consisting of mixed technoIogies gene-raIIy conforms to a mixture distribution. However existing main-tainabiIity standards and guidance do not expIain expIicitIy how to deaI with this situation. This paper deveIops a comprehensive maintainabiIity demonstration method for compIex systems with a mixed maintenance time distribution. First of aII, a K-means aIgo-rithm and an expectation-maximization (EM) aIgorithm are used to partition the maintenance time data for aII possibIe cIusters. The Bayesian information criterion (BIC) is then used to choose the optimaI modeI. After this, the cIustering resuIts for equipment are obtained according to their degree of membership. The de-gree of simiIarity for the maintainabiIity of different kinds of equip-ment is then determined using the projection method. By using a Bootstrap method, the prior distribution is obtained from the main-tenance time data for the most simiIar equipment. Then, a test method based on Bayesian theory is outIined for the maintainabi-Iity demonstration. FinaIIy, the viabiIity of the proposed approach is iIIustrated by means of an exampIe.
