The US Bureau of Mines is investigating the cobalt and manganese resources in the central and western Arkansas mining area through field exploration, mineral characterization, beneficiation and hydrometallurgy tests. These structurally controlled deposits lie in the Ouachita Mountains and are buried along anticline axes that form ridges. The brecciated homogeneous-dense quartzite is cemented with a mixture of various manganese oxides, mainly potassium and manganese, and cobalt is enriched in lithium-manganese ore and is a special manganese oxide phase. Chemical analysis of the ore sample results in 25% manganese and 0.17% cobalt. Magnetic separation products containing 41% manganese, 0.22% cobalt, the recovery rates were 95% and 93%.
