习语是在语言使用过程中形成一种独特的、约定俗成的、具有完整独特意义的语言。其语义并非等同组成成分意义的简单相加,人们很难从个别词义猜出整个习语的含义。习语翻译要处理好语言和语境的矛盾,不仅要译出原习语本语的形象、喻义,还要译出其民族特色和地域色彩。就英汉习语文化差异的由来,以及理解与翻译问题做些初步探讨,并强调在翻译过程中要注意“貌合神离”的现象。
Idioms form a unique, conventional and completely unique language in the process of language use. Its semantics is not a simple addition of the meanings of its constituent elements. It is difficult for people to guess the meaning of the whole idiom from individual semantic meanings. Idioms translation to handle the contradiction between language and context, not only to translate the image of the original idioms, metaphor, but also to translate its national characteristics and geographical color. On the origin of cultural differences between English and Chinese idioms, as well as the understanding and translation issues to do some preliminary discussion, and stressed that in the translation process should pay attention to the phenomenon of “appearance”.
