The development of granular magnetic recording media is introduced. The latest progress in the preparation of barium ferrite ultrafine powders is summarized. The latest synthesis methods such as sol - gel method, coprecipitation method and microemulsion method are summarized. These methods are effective methods for synthesizing ultrafine barium ferrite powders with particle sizes less than 100 nm.
