健美操作为一种健身活动,是以身体各部位的相对运动为内容,以艺术创作为手段,以人体自身为对象,以健美为目的的一项新型的体育运动项目。它充分显示出形体美、精神美、时代气质的美,深受广大青少年学生所接受和喜欢。经常从事该项体育活动可以发展人体的灵活性、协调性,可以提高人们上下肢及躯干的活动能力,改善呼吸系统和心血管系统的功能,提高有氧供能的能力,调节神经系统并提高其抗乳酸的能力,而且能起到增进健康、抗病防衰、调节精神的作用。健美操运动一般不受场地、器材及练习人数、年龄、性别的限制,对练习者身体素质要求不高,没有危险动作,对丰富和推动学校的体育教学和课外活动有着积极作用。
