The magnetic compounds of rare earth (R) and transition metal(T), such asNd_2Fe_(14)B and Sm_2Fe_(17)N_x, have been a focus of research for a long time. Thecompound LaCo_(13) has the largest 3d metal content of any known rare-earthintermetallic compounds and its Curie temperature is 1318 K, so it is a potentialstarting compound for magnetic materials. But it is cubic, occurring in the NaZn_(13)structure, and possesses a rather low anisotropy. Nevertheless, it can also be used tostudy the magnetic properties and other related problems.
