The authors reported the growth of WI-38 cells in serum-free high calcium supplemented media with or without added hormones. The basic medium used in the experiment was modified MCDB without Ca ~ (++). Before adding Ca ~ (++), a large amount of CaCl2 was added to prevent the formation of calcium phosphate precipitation. The growth of WI-38 cells (inoculum size 10 ~ 4 / cm ~ 2) in MCDB containing different concentrations of Ca ~ (++) was studied. The highest cell number was found at 5mM CaCl_2 and reached 5 × 10 ~ 4 / cm ~ 2, the same as the number of cells on the 13th day in MCDB containing 50 ng / ml of epidermal growth factor (EGF). Followed by addition of 1 mM CaCl 2 and 5 mM CaCl 2 respectively
