封面“西安交通大学”系敬爱的周恩来总理的字迹。1956年经党中央批准,设在上海的交通大学迁往西安,绝大多数系的师生员工以及实验室设备、图书资料随之迁来。嗣于1957年,根据变化了的情况,又将交通大学分设为西安部分和上海部分。1959年,经国务院批准,又将两部分分别独立建校,西安部分称西安交通大学,上海部分称上海交通大学。在交通大学迁校过程中,敬爱的周总理给予了许多直接的指示和无微不至的关怀,才得以顺利完成迁校任务。这是全校师生员工永远难以忘怀的。为此,我们特从上述国务院批准设立两校文件的批示中,复制出周总理

In 1956, with the approval of the Party Central Committee, the Jiao Tong University in Shanghai relocated to Xi’an. Most teachers, students, lab staff and laboratory equipment moved to Xi’an. In 1957, according to the changed situation, Jiao Tong University was again divided into the Xi’an part and the Shanghai part. In 1959, approved by the State Council, the two parts were separately set up for school. The Xi’an part called Xi’an Jiaotong University and the Shanghai part called Shanghai Jiao Tong University. During the relocation of Jiaotong University, beloved Premier Zhou gave many direct instructions and meticulous care so as to successfully complete the task of relocating the school.
