2017年9月23日,“比尔·维奥拉1977-2014·精选作品展”在广州红专厂当代艺术馆RMCA开幕,这对中国当代艺术界来说,无疑是一次绝对重量级的展览。因为中国的录像艺术,从上世纪80年代后期起步开始,恐怕就无法摆脱比尔·维奥拉(Bill Viola)的影响。而这次带有回顾性质的展览,汇聚了维奥拉跨度长达40年各个时期的重要作品,可谓规模空前。但是,囿于地域文化语言等因素的阻隔,我们对于维奥拉作品的接受或许只是断章取义、支离破碎的,所以,笔者借着近距离观展的机会,试图勾勒一个较为全面的作品理解路径,以激发思考。
September 23, 2017, “Bill Viola 1977-2014 · Selected Works of Art” was opened at RMCA, Guangzhou Hongcun Museum of Contemporary Art, which undoubtedly is an absolute heavyweight for the Chinese contemporary art world Exhibition. Because of China’s video art, I was afraid I could not get rid of the influence of Bill Viola from the beginning of the late 1980s. This retrospective exhibition brings together important works of Viola spanning 40 years of various periods and is unprecedented in scale. However, due to the barriers of geographical and cultural factors and other factors, our acceptance of Viola’s works may only be out of context and fragmented. Therefore, by taking a closer look at the exhibition, the author attempts to outline a more comprehensive understanding of his works. Stimulate thinking.
