新中国各方面的进步是迅速的,而且是在日新月异地發展着。我国广大的科学界,对祖国的科学研究和建設事業作出了很大的貢献:在党和政府的亲切关怀和大力支持下,我国的科学界正在积極努力,要使祖国的科学研究工作在不太長的时期內达到或接近世界先进的科学水平。为了鼓励科学工作者的积極性和創造性,促进我国科学事業的發展,以便更好地为我国的社会主义建設服务,中国科学院根据国务院1955年8月5日全体会議第十七次会議通过的中国科学院科学獎金暫行条例的規定,从1955年10月开始进行科学研究論著的評獎工作,1957年1月24日公布了中国科学院1956年度科学獎金(自然科学部分)获得者名單。这是我国第一次举办的科学研究論著評獎工作。这次受獎的論著是自然科学方面的,社会科学方面論
