Soil conservation in slopes of developing countries is both easier and more difficult than maintaining soil in agricultural areas in industrialized countries. It is easier, because its goal is to promote soil conservation measures that have been developed and tested elsewhere, rather than using sophisticated methods to develop new technologies. It is more difficult because of the generally severe natural conditions of precipitation and soils and topography on the one hand, and of socio-cultural impacts on the other hand, such as the problem of innovation, the deeply rooted tradition of land use and the astonishing population increase.
