The United States, Japan and Germany are the most developed countries in the world in mutual fund industry. The United States has the most dramatic development in mutual funds. In the 1980s, the mutual funds of the United States rose at an average annual rate of 25% and the rate of inflation in the 1990s was still 15%. By the end of this century, U.S. mutual fund assets totaled 4.3 trillion U.S. dollars, exceeding the total assets of Bank of America. Not only that, Mutual funds have fiercely competed with commercial banks in many businesses since the 1980s. Some people say that mutual funds are banks in the 1990s, and I agree with this.
