土司在贵州延续数百年,对道教在贵州的发展产生了深远的影响,促进了道教的传播,主要体现在以下方面:第一,土司乐于捐资助建道教宫观;第二,土司乐于礼遇各派道士;第三,土司家族的部分成员出家成为道士。同时,道教又促进了土司文化与中原文化的融合,促进了土司群体与流官群体的交流和沟通,促进了民族融合。简而言之,道教文化一方面与土司文化相化合;另一方面又充当黏合剂和催化剂的角色,促使本土的土司群体与外来的流寓群体相融合。
