Objective To explore the effect of music-assisted therapy on anxiety in patients with acute pulpitis. Methods From February 2014 to February 2017, 160 cases of acute pulpitis treated in Department of Stomatology in our hospital were randomly divided into music group and control group, 80 cases in each group. The state-trait anxiety scale (S-AI) before and after treatment to assess the anxiety state before and after treatment in patients with pain visual analog scale (VAS). Results After the initial treatment, S-AI scores of music group and control group were significantly lower than those before treatment (P <0.05), while those of music group were significantly lower than those of control group (t = 8.192, P <0.001) Patients in the music group had a significantly lower S-AI score than those before the initial treatment (P <0.001). The VAS scores of patients in middle initial music group and treatment group were significantly lower than those in control group (P <0.001), and the satisfaction of patients in music group was significantly higher than that of control group (χ ~ 2 = 9.001, P = 0.003). Conclusion Musical adjuvant therapy can significantly improve the anxiety and pain level of patients with acute pulpitis during treatment, and improve the satisfaction of patients’ treatment.
