The second space shuttle Challenger in the U.S. space shuttle fleet will be launched for the first time at Kennedy Point in early March 1983 to undertake the sixth, seventh and eighth working flights this year. In the meantime, the first space shuttle Columbia, after four flight tests and first flight of operations, will pause the flight for some modifications in preparation for the ninth working flight in September of this year. The Challenger is not a “recruiter” in the space program. It played an important role in a long-year-long structural pilot program completed in early 1979, where it demonstrated the design and technology of a space shuttle. A clear difference between the appearance of Challenger and Columbia
