五毒，是用以治病的五种有毒的动物，吕种玉《言鲭·谷雨五毒》中有载：“古者青齐（今山东一带）风俗，于谷雨日画五毒符，图蝎子、蜈蚣、蛇虺（ｈｕｉ，毁）、蜂、蜮（相传为古代一种能含沙射人的动物）之状，各画一针刺，宣布家户贴之，以禳虫毒”我们现在所说的五毒是指蛇
Five poisons are the five kinds of poisonous animals used to treat diseases. Lü Jangyu’s “Say Yan and Yu Yuwu Poison” contained: “Customers of the ancient Qing Dynasty (now Shandong Province) customs, painted five poisonous characters in Gu Yuri, In the form of zizi, pipa, hui (destroyed), bee, and cricket (according to legend, it is an ancient type of animal capable of shooting sand), each painting draws acupuncture and announces that the household has posted it and used locust to poison it.” The five poisons we are talking about now are snakes.
