To observe the protective effect of vitamin E on vascular endothelial cells by MODS model. The morphological changes of endothelial cells were observed and the blood levels of MDA, SOD, CAT, TXB2 and 6-K-PGFIα were detected synchronously. The results showed that the contents of MDA and TXB2 in MODS group were significantly higher than those in MODS group (P <0.01), while the levels of SOD, CAT and 6-K-PGFIα were decreased (P <0.01). Scanning and transmission electron microscopy were used to observe the significant damage and loss of normal morphology of MODS vascular endothelial cells. The above indexes of VitE group were all improved to some extent. Observations suggest that MODS animals significantly increased lipid peroxidation damage, while the anti-oxidant capacity Minnesota decreased. This change may have important pathophysiological significance in the pathogenesis of MODS. Early use of VitE on the prevention and treatment of MODS is beneficial.
