作为中国人,自觉或不自觉地,总不愿意说太多自己文化的坏话。俗话说的“要面子”,本身即是中国文化的一个显著特征。但从近代以来,中国文化在总体上又是如此悬殊地落后于西方文化。对于中国知识分子来说,内在的炽热民族自尊与外在的冷酷列国它强,既逼迫我们不得不从事中西文化比较,又使得我们在着手这个工作时,沉浸于一个非常难堪的心绪里、置身在一个非常尴尬的境地中。
