This paper presents a set of methods for designing prestressed concrete tension members. The design criteria considered include maximum allowable pressure, ultimate strength, crack safety, decompression safety, minimum reinforcement ratio, and maximum instantaneous and long-term deformation. Each design criterion is represented by a function of two unknown variables: one is the area of the prestressed rebar, and the other is the gross area of the cross-section of the concrete. It can be seen that various relationships that represent different criteria form a feasible domain that is limited by linear functions. In this paper, we adopt the allowable approximate design method to linearize the problem and attribute it to the linear programming problem. The objective function is to minimize the cost or weight of the component, or to achieve both cost and weight
