On January 14， Xinhua News Agency released a public notice announcing the latest appointments and removals of the state functionaries， including the stepping down of Yu Youjun from the office of Deputy Director of China’s South-to-north Water Diversion Project under the State Council.
Yu Youjun， 62， started to serve for the Water Diversion Project from early 2011. He was chairing the 2015 annual meeting for the project in Nanyang City， Henan Province when removed.
During the four years working for the Project， Yu Youjun barely appeared in the media. However， he still attracted a lot of attention from the public. Some say that it maybe because his experience of ups and downs reflects a lot of the hidden rules of China’s political circle.
Yu Youjun was born in January， 1953， in Fengxian County， Jiangsu Province. He successively served as member of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial CPC Committee， Mayor of Shenzhen City， Deputy Party Chief of Hunan Provincial CPC Committee， Vice Governor of Hunan Province， Governor of Shanxi Province and Deputy Ministry of Culture. On October 12， 2008， the third Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee decided to remove Yu Youjun from the CPC Central Committee and place him on internal probation from two years. The reason of the punishment is still a myth to this day.
