“Silk Road Economic Belt” is a phrase that has been repeatedly mentioned by Nur Bekri， who served as Chairman of Xinjiang Autonomous Region until appointed as Director of the National Energy Administration in December 31， 2014. In the next year， the Uygur official will be able to display his idea of “Silk Road Economic Belt” on a larger stage.
Nur Bekri， 53， is one of the few provincialranked officials of CPC that were born in the 1960s. He was born in a small town of Xinjiang neighboring Kazakhstan. In 1983 he graduated from Xinjiang University and then stayed there for ten years， working successively as Secretary of the Communist Youth League and Head of the Party Committee Propaganda Department. In 1993， he was appointed as Assistant Administrative Commissioner of Kashi Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at an age of 32 years old.
After three years spending in Kashi， Nur Bekri was promoted to the position of Deputy Secretary-general of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Government and stayed there for two years. In 1997， he assumed the office of the Mayor of Urumqi and became the youngest capital city mayor in China at that time.
Nur Bekri was known for his achievement in China’s “Go-west Campaign” and his hawkish practice in dealing with terrorist activities.
