In 1979, when I was a graduate student, I made a special trip to Shanghai to visit the master of ancient Chinese landscape painting (the source exhibition held in major museums in China by master masters of ancient landscape paintings) in Shanghai. The exhibition spanned from eastern Jin Dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty. Today, I have the fine print of the Complete Works of Chinese Landscape Paintings and the Complete Works of Modern Chinese Landscape Paintings on my desk. The landscape painters included in the two sets of paintings are also the works from the Eastern Jin Dynasty to the late Qing Dynasty and from the modern to the contemporary landscape painters.
