Genomes of plants and animals are organized differently in the following ways as we noticed so far.First, the gene space of plant genomes is always a minor fraction of the genome length, often less than 50% (e.g., less than 10% in the wheat genome), whereas that of animal genomes is always the majority, around 90%.The reason is that biologically-defined repeats (BDRs) are often found within genes among animal genomes and between genes among plant genomes.Second, animal genes are in average much larger than those of plants;the former is usually above 10 kb (e.g., the human genes are averaged 100 Kb in length), whereas the plant genes are around 5 kb and do not grow longer among complex plant lineages.
