To keep blood glucose in normal level without stimulation of insulin Secretion is the effective therapy for diabetes owing to reduction of the burden for ?-cells.We found a novel diabetes-therapy based on the finding of two novel physiological functions on L-tryptophan; one is the inhibition of glucose absorption from small-intestine and the other is the acceleration of blood-glucose utilization.Elevations of glucose and insulin in blood by glucose peroral-administration were suppressed 30% by L-tryptophan peroral co-administration,but not by D-tryptophan.The glucose absorption into everted-sac small-intestine was inhibited by L-tryptophan dose-dependently.Glucose adsorption to the purified intestinal sodium-dependent glucose receptor-1 was inhibited by L-tryptophan using surface plasmon resonance,Biacore-3000.The utilization-speed of elevated blood glucose was accelerated 30% by tryptamine.
