Introduction: Today the prevention of suicidal behaviours is a priority both nationally and internationally (Portuguese Mental Health Plan, 2008; WHO, 2008; EU, 2008).Therefore, a School-based Suicide Prevention Programme "+ Contig ?" was designed and implemented through two lines of action: oneaimed at primary health care technicians and another one aimed at basic and secondary school students. An intervention was designed for adolescents with the general aims of promoting self-concept and adopting effective coping strategies; identifying mental disorders early on; fighting against stigma; and increasing access to mental health care. For schools where a suicide has recently occurred, the programme includes crisis intervention aimed to promote bereavement; identify and reduce feelings of guilt and trauma; prevent isolation and avoid identification with the suicidal behaviour. The results obtained in a school following a female adolescents suicide will be presented. Methods: A cognitive, emotional and behavioural intervention was designed which targeted adolescents and was based on Cordeiros (2007) methodological assumptions. This intervention.was developed in four 45-minute sessions. The questionnaire applied to adolescents is composed of: Piers-Harris Childrens Self-Concept Scale-2 validated for Portugal by Veiga (2006), Coping Across Situations Questionnaire validated by Cleto (1998) and Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for Children validated by Martinho (2004).The questionnaire was applied in two different moments: Phase 1 (before the intervention) and Phase 2 (after the specialized intervention). The sample was composed of 90 adolescents. Results: These results show higher scores in self-concept and coping strategies used in problem-solving between Phases 1 and 2 of the study (before and after the intervention). As for depression, it was observed that the scores obtained in the second evaluation indicated an overall decrease in depression symptoms. The expression of feelings was promoted and bereavement was dealt with using cognitive-behavioral techniques and others. One year after the suicide, no suicidal behavior was registered among students. Conclusion: The Programme promoted the development of social competencies and skills in adolescents with an impact on the quality of the schools psychological atmosphere by, on the one hand, exploring and promoting active and effective strategies to deal with negative problems and events and, on the other hand, promoting the development of affective and emotional bonds necessary to reinforce the network of solidarity in school settings, thus reinforcing mental health.
